Summer, Summer, Summertime

Hey, look at what more of your DT friends have been up to this summer!

Sarah Canning
This summer I have been working at Kiwi Yogurt! I've been eating all the froyo that my heart desires! MMMmmm! I reunited with some of my favorite JMU dancers in Maryland for the Christopher K. Morgan intensive earlier this summer. I stayed at the home of the lovely Lexie Thrash with Kelley and Tia. And hung out with Jennifer every day. I was also a camp counselor at Camp Nawakwa in Arntsville, PA. ("Nawakwa" means "camp in the woods") So I lived in the woods with a bunch of youth and made them do activities! Whoop! I also did my first tough mudder!!! Best. Decision. Ever. I've been teaching class at my old studio, started running, and biking! (Just bought a snazzy new bike that I will soon be riding at JMU!) I've had many weekend beach trips in Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. Oh! and I stayed with Melany for a weekend! Now I'm headed back to JMU to assume my position as a FROG!!!! I"m so excited I could pee my pants!
Here are some pics:

So what did I do this summer? hummmm....

I took COB300 with the College of Business at JMU.  This class includes 4 sections: operations, management, marketing and finance.  All in all it was 12 credits in 10 weeks over the summer... yikes! Other than taking the four classes, all COB300 students are put into groups and have to create a business plan while taking these classes.  So we had to stay on top of all of our normal coursework, along with come up with a plan to produce, distribute, market, and sell a product. Not to mention we had to figure out how we were going to make a profit! Phew!  Luckily, I had the best group in the world and we came up with a hypothetical business called LifeDock.  Our product was an ignition interlock system for your car that prevents texting while driving.  So pretty much a dock in your car you have to put your phone into before the car will start.

Every year there is a business plan competition, and once all of the final plans from each semester are turned in, 5 of the best plans (from about 150 total plans) are selected to participate in a competition for lots of scholarship money! Each semester, they narrow it down to the best plans from that semester, and my group made it through the first round (AKA my group made it to the callbacks but not into the company... yet!) So we have to continue work on it in the beginning of fall semester and hopefully we'll make it all the way to the top 5!

After COB300, I taught dance full-time at my studio at home in Blacksburg, I took a weekend off to go to FloydFest in Floyd, Virginia.  And the week before school started back up, I went on a short beach trip with my mom.  Woo hoo time flies when you're having fun.  And when you're busy, too!! :D
This is my lovely COB300 group!

Oh good lord I miss all of DT so stinking much and cannot wait to be back with y'all! But yeah my summer has been pretty cool nothing too crazy. I'm in a dance company in Lancaster called REV9. We're primarily a modern company but we're known for being super athletic and acrobatic and stuff. I'm sure everyone has seen a lot of posts about us just because I have been bombarding Facebook with everything rev9. We had our show last weekend and it went really well. We sold out the house which was amazing. The feedback we've been getting has been really great too which is exciting :) if any one wants to check our stuff out they just need to search Rev9 dance company on you tube and stuff will come up (sorry for the shameless promoting, I've been doing it all summer and it's been hard to turn it off haha). So yeah...that's all I've done dance wise, rehearsals took up a lot of time so I wasn't able to do any intensives. Can't wait to hear how everyone's summers have been! Love and miss you tons!!!
This is me being awesome.

That is all for now DT! Keep checking in to see what your fellow dancers have been up to.

DT Summers

Hello DT!

It has been a long and beautiful summer! Especially for the DT blog. Most of us have been separated from our dancing counterparts for months now, so what better way to catch up then telling the DT world what we have been up to!

This post will be part of a series of posts the DT blog is doing on summers! SO if you have not yet messaged/emailed your fabulous summer in, please do so ASAP!

Here is what your DT friends have been up to:

Lexie Thrash
This summer, I spent many a day working at the fabulous Chic to Chic Consignment Boutique in downtown Frederick, MD. While I learned the ins and outs of being a fashionista I also learned some snazzy online skillz that I hope will be useful in my new (hopefully?!?!!) major ((SMAD)). I also lounged, beached, read lots of crazy good books, and pilates/yogad (what's the past tense of yoga?) to get back to me inner roots. The best part was when fellow dancers Kel, Tia, and Scanning Tatum stayed with me for a week to do the CKM&A Intensive in Bethesda (Jen was present as well..she's kewl too) WOOO DANCE!
Here are some of the fabulous JMU dancers at the CKM&A Intensive

Tori Powell
This summer I have been living in the Outer Banks...just me and six dogs! It was definitely an interesting experience being on my own for the first time! I worked two jobs, took an online class, and (attempted) to soak up the sun (even though I am still pale as ever)! Even though I sadly didn't get to dance very much, I took some sunrise yoga classes (and if you ever get the chance to take one, I recommend doing so)!! And I adopted a kitten who is coming to JMU!!
Here is Tori's new kitty!

Melany Schwarz
My summer has been kinda boring, but I did go to my lake house where we've been going since I was born where all one side of my family gets together for the 4th of July. So here's a picture of my family, the view from the house, and a picture of the house!

Hey DTers ! Hope all your summers went well. This summer I spent majority of my time lifeguarding as well as working at my old dance studio. For my first excursion, I road tripped off to good ole Maryland where I stayed with Lexie, Tia, Jen, and Sarah for the Christopher K Morgan summer dance intensive (which was mentally and physically rewarding). I also flew down to Bermuda (which is off the coast of NC which I was unaware of!) with my roommates from JMU. Another highlight of my summer was volunteering at Sister Pat's Kids camp in Esopus, NY for the 4th year. Here I am a counselor for kids with cancer and other blood disorders such as sickle cell and hemophilia. It's great returning each year to see the kids grow up, as well as get healthier and cured of their diseases. This camp is very close to my heart; I plan to attend for many more summers to come. Finally, my family and I spent a relaxing week in Ocean City, MD to finish out an awesome summer. (I ate my first crab here! I'm newly obsessed now) Though I had lots of fun this summer, I can not wait to return to JMU and be dancing again!
Here is Kelley in Bermuda with her frands!

Keep looking out for new posts! And be sure to send one in if you want to share your summer with friends! GET EXCITED FOR THIS YEAR! WOO

17 DAYS UNTIL JMU!
